Basically, young Democrats are not proud to be American, as old Republicans are all proud to be American.
I personally think it’s because of the blatant corruption, the stripping of human rights, and the transfer of wealth to the already wealthy.
Maybe it’s just because they wanted to go to college and actually get a good interesting job that helps people, and that’s getting to be impossible.
Maybe it’s because young Democrats are likely to live in big cities, and they interact with immigrants constantly, and aren’t afraid of them.
Maybe it’s because older Republicans are scared, because they’re being bombarded with propaganda about how their „culture“ is being wiped out.
Yeah it’s hard to be proud to be American when anyone with a brain and the ability to game theory realizes we’re less than 15 years from a civil war or societal collapse.

Harry Enten says this line at least twice a week. He said it last week about the “BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL”. “I never thought I’d see numbers shift like this!” should be his middle name.
America was supposed to be a land of opportunity, freedom, and possibility for advancement or wealth. Instead, we are now the most recent example of the destructive forces of capitalism and racism. I’m not proud of that.
I mean, the problem is that Trump and his MAGA goons have essentially redefined „patriotism“ as „unwavering love and support for Donald Trump and the Republican party“, and anything other than that is being redefined as „un-American“ and „radicalism“.
Could it be young people look to Europe and see what functioning democracies and democratic socialist countries provide? And then realize it’s a better life than what the US offers?
It’s OK to admit the US is in decline and that these loudmouth “patriots” are a major reason why.
I’m not about to pretend both sides are the same, but both sides serve the same masters. And as long as Billionaires exist and have outsized influence and power it’s gonna be real hard to convince smart educated people that the system is working for them. This is class warfare, politics is a distraction.
I’m a middle-aged person on the blue side, and I’m deeply ashamed to admit that I’m American. I can’t even imagine how little the world thinks of us now.
Democrats are stuck in fighting for maintaining the status quo while Republicans are deadset on dragging the US back to 75 years ago when everything favored rich white Christians.
Young people want leaders that they think are working for a better future. We don’t have many of those in Washington.
The problem with Enten is that he is a CNN gimmick. They parse poll numbers into meaningless factoids just to fill air time. The polls reported in the source just say what the sentiment is but not why. The US is an international embarrassment under Trump, which might explain Democrat sentiment, and Republicans are indoctrinated sycophants, which might explain Republican sentiment.
Being despised by the entire world isn’t helping
How could anyone by proud of ICE secret police kidnapping people from Home Depot parking lots and illegally expelling them to foreign war zones like South Sudan?
This is America, A plurality of the voting public wanted this whether they knew it or not.

It’s the 90% of Republicans that are proud to be an American served by a President who has a criminal record, should have been convicted of national security violations, election tampering and inciting a resurrection that astounds me. If those weren’t enough negative issues one would also add that the President has a public record of being a pig who boasts about defiling women, ripping off consumers and speaking with the grace of a four year old. Or maybe that he is turning the rest of the planet against America. Yeah, puff those chests out Republicans and start prepping Mount Rushmore for his ghoulish face.
No generation except the boomers have seen America in anything but decline. In our lifetimes there’s been no reason to be proud of America.
Growing up I was so blindly proud of my country. Being born in 1980’s, I witnessed 9/11 as a teenager and answered the call to my country when it came time. After serving in Iraq, voting for and seeing Obama get elected I couldn’t have been more proud and optimistic for this country.
Fast forward to today and I personally have never been more embarrassed, disappointed, demoralized, pessimistic, etc etc.
I’m not sure who in their goddamn mind would vote for Trump. It’s like a slow-moving shit train that they didn’t see coming. The first time I thought it was a joke that he got elected. I couldn’t believe it. The second time it just proved to me how fucking dumb my fellow americans are. (no, I do not capitalize america anymore)
I was never “proud” to be an American, but I used to find many things I love about the US. Now, it’s just purely shame. I’m moving to Germany in a few weeks and will likely have to pretend I’m Canadian, tbh
I was an American in Europe during the GW Bush administration. It was super embarrassing to be an American during the Iraq war. Even Canadians abroad were like, “don’t associate with me.”
I feel like Trump 2.0 is even worse.

The „love it or leave it“ crowd are going to love this while at the same time being to stupid to understand it.
The inevitable interpretation of this will be that these people are not American and should be deported. The reality is that our current government is giving us nothing to take pride in.
Strangely they are saying this like it is a bad thing. A poll like this taken during the Vietnam War could have looked very much the same. I am proud that the youth of America have not fallen for the bullshit coming out of Washington like there Republican counterparts. The brain dead republican youth who are leading us to the thorny Handmaiden’s Tale future that await them.
I was just at the Roller Derby world cup, an event that the USA has won every 4 years since its inception.
They didn’t attend the teams parade and instead held an American flag upside down and read out a statement that they do not represent the American government, or what the.USA has become, but they are here representing the people and communities and will not give up hoping fighting for a better future for them.
If your own national team, that are the undisputed champions of the world are not proud to represent you then you have some serious issues.
It’s absolutely embarrassing to be an American right now. Trump and his batshit followers have taken a shit on democracy and completely wiped their ass with the values that our soldiers fought for in WWII. Only a racist, sociopathic idiot would take pride in what’s happening currently
CNN doing a poll to show Democrats „hate“ America. You watch, Trump will be quoting this within a couple of days.
That number seems high.
What the fuck do we have to be proud of? The dumbest among us are deciding the direction of the country, our officials are governing by spite rather than leaderships, and we’re learning that our constitution can be nullified simply by someone going “nah”.
What is there to be proud of anymore? All the progress we’ve made is being reversed en masse and we’re turning into Nazi Germany. I want to be proud of being American but lately even just thinking that makes me feel sick. I’m proud to be Minnesotan though, that’s for sure.
America has always had problems with corruption, but it has never been as bad as it’s been under Trump. Before Trump, the corruption would be mostly weeded out and there would be, at least, some consequences. Now, they gleefully cheer on open corruption, law breaking, and anti-freedom actions everyday.
How can anyone be proud of that?

I wish that people would separate their country from their government. I love my country but detest its current regime. And I’m not particularly happy with its opposition at the moment.
If it weren’t so toxic, the literal term „MAGA“ makes more sense now than when it was created.
We need to make America great again…like before Trump got involved.
Trump literally saying he hates all democrats. How are we supposed to feel about that. America is complicit in a genocide that’s murdering children, trying to start new wars in the Middle East, abducting and deporting citizens and bankrupting itself, just like Trump has done to his other legitimate businesses that aren’t his grift on America. Well, Americans voted for a guy who tried to overturn an election and we all saw it on television.

Not to mention Trump doesn’t even try to act like a president or a president to every American. He likes red states and republicans and it’s clear that’s it. He has no empathy and it’s embarrassing that such a little man is the ruler of the free world.
We gave up on helping anyone with USAID being shut down, we gave up our soft power, they are happy to let people die if they can save some really rich people money on taxes.
So yeah, not a lot to be proud of. This isn’t even a D versus R thing. It’s a decent person versus a horrible con man thing.
I just want to help people. We’re no longer helping people. We’re doing the opposite of helping people.
