Hello again everyone! By pointing my telescope at an area of space found in the constellation of Canes Venatici, I managed to capture a galaxy that resembles the famous Eye of Sauron from the LOTR franchise.

Surrounded by hundreds of galaxies, the Eye of Sauron is an amazing object to capture. It’s some 52 million light-years from us, which makes it a bit harder to capture than others. It has very faint spiral arms which can be revealed with a lot of exposure time as well as a beautiful core full of color.

If you were to look around, you’d see tons of small irregular “stars”. These are, in fact, galaxies that are full of Sun-like stars and possibly Earth-like planets. Insane…

If you’d like to know how I captured this shot, check out the pinned posts on my Instagram profile (@jakicevichap) where I explain the process as well as the relative size of deep sky objects such as this one.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer as soon as I can.

    Clear skies,

    Matija

Sorry i might sound extremely stupid right now, but did you actually take a shot of those galaxies around the eye? Or are they somehow added in here? Because that shot is absolutely beautiful.

  4. I wonder what kind of polar opposite names aliens might give it. Yeah that’s Bob.
