    1. Many more to follow unfortunately. Trump doesn’t care. Stop the wars? Cut services and they die here.

    2. Trump and his retrumplican sycophants are stealing the money we need for natural disasters, food and medical care for the sick in order to give more money to billionaires.

This is just sick and depraved greed.

This is just the beginning of the consequences from this administration.

Children. They killed children at summer camp. They’re begging us all to pop out more slaves for this broken system for what? To murder our children? Then these rich, out of touch monsters wonder what makes people not have any. To protect them from you.

From what I understand, it was Texas that screwed up here, not the NWS, despite their cuts.

This is still very alarming going into hurricane season, don’t get me wrong, and I don’t doubt that there will be ripple effects from greater funding cuts that impact things like local warning systems and emergency procedures. I am absolutely not trying to insinuate that the cuts are not a disaster unto themselves.

However, from what I understand, Texas sat on the warning from the NWS for a day. They should’ve been evacuating that camp (in a flood plain!!) well before disaster struck. Some people might’ve changed their plans to go camping by the river. Either way, people died when they could’ve and should’ve been saved by common sense planning from their state government.

    6. I read a comment somewhere says that the NOAA funding cuts don’t even go into effect until October 2025. Is it true?

Yeah, this is what happens when you treat stuff like weather forecasting as optional instead of essential.

    8. WastelandOutlaw007 on

This is just the start, hurricane season is kicking up to full gear, fema is gutting and weather forecasters have been cut off from the satellites that were they best tools.

They’ve already started throwing Biden’s name out there as the cause.

Mentioning Trumps cut to NOAA is just getting MAGA voters to comment that this is not political and the left should be ashamed. You do not need to be part of the left to get angry about the government cutting what keeps citizens alive and safe. Be upset that Trump cut USDA because it keeps your food safe for consumption, get upset about Trump cutting USAID it fights disease so it doesn’t get out of control and spread, get upset that Trump is cutting medicaid/Medicare because people who are elderly or in poverty don’t deserve to die from preventable medical conditions. There’s more cuts but this is getting long. Stay safe and take care.

    11. Fake news fake news democrats hoax will be his response to this because he won’t come out and tell the truth he doesn’t care at best but takes joy out of making people suffer and die

    12. „Our worst nightmare is that Weather Forecast Offices will be so understaffed due to cuts that there will be needless loss of life,” wrote five former NWS directors in an open letter to Donald Trump on May 2. 13. But we „won’t even notice“ the spending cuts. Trump gets more full of shit by the say. God help other flood prone areas like the Mississippi Delta and the tornado alleys.

If only someone could have foreseen this happening.

      Oh right. Everyone did.

Anything and everything, including sacrificing their kids, before ever criticizing the Dear Leader as long as he „gets rid of“ certain people

Too many people I know think forecasters are con artists because weather predictions are constantly changing throughout the week, day or even by the hour/minutes, and so it may still rain even with lower prediction percentages. Yet they defend actual con artist Trump.

    17. Dixon_Ciderbum on

Can’t wait to see the mental gymnastics they do to blame this on Biden.

    18. As much as a problem these cuts were, it’s disingenuous to place the blame on a these cuts. NWS predicted rainfall, one of the issues is that local governments chose to only post on FB and not send out mass emergency notifications.

People also need to keep in mind, this happens so quickly. Within 20 minutes some places had risen +10ft(3m) making some areas nearly impossible to escape. I am from central TX and flash floods have always been a risk during extreme rain.

The most depressing part is, red states voters still think that climate change is a hoax.

Stupidity is really deadly. Somehow, they have created their own fate.

My god you have a lot of patience for your so called president.

    21. In 2024 the Texas National Weather Service,in the flood area, had twice as many talented employees as they did when the flood hit. The staff shortages complicated forecasters’ ability to coordinate responses with local emergency management officials.

    22. In the Texas County where the most people were killed, never put in a warning system.

And for some reason Botox Barbie is front and center talking about NWS, as if it were part of DHS and not DOC. Because who better to talk about the science of meteorology than someone with a degree in political science.

I feel awful for all the kids that died because their parents were too anti science and too anti reason to see how mass layoffs would hurt them. MAGA Jesus isn’t going to save you from severe weather, but science could have if the Luddites in Washington would let it.

Good news it’s coming for more conservatives.  Living in pretend land in a reality that doesn’t give a shit is a hell of a strategy.

Good thing FEMA can step in where NOAA failed…  oops, never mind.

Most of what we have built has been a result of blood, death, famine and pain. We found it’s cheaper – and kinder – to predict natural disasters and clear out humans than to search for them after. It’s the level of support and service we have come to expect.

No more. Ya’ll defund the geeks and you are in for a world of pain. Already trump defunding the cyber group protecting us from russia wil have dramatic impacts as our power plants, water purification and dams and the like are held hostage, only this time not for money… they’ll want something bigger.

Let’s not even talk about „infrastructure week“.. bridges, tunnels, levy’s all of these are crumbling.

And god forbid I say the words „GLOBAL WARMING“ because ignoring that is going to kick us all – the entire world – in the ass. Fucking Gore giving up in Florida has caused all of this, you spineless coward.

Sorry – I’m angry and frustrated and the dumbest meanest people are in charge and they are all sociopaths and there is no batman to sort this all out. OR IS THERE???
