He’s an absolute idiot if he thinks that the powers he wants to give the office of the president won’t ever be used against him

  2. Alexanderparadis1986 on

If this passes, can’t Biden just exploit this law? Can he not use it to his own advantage?

“Alarming,” only if you haven’t been paying attention. “New?” Now you’re just trolling.

Conservative Court Justices should be held to account by the people- this goes to far and reeks of complicity.

It’s been obvious for a long time that the guy is high from smoking fox news and free basing breitbart

  6. So hold up, if presidents get immunity. Biden at midnight of the decisions has goons execute the conservative justices and Trump and say “I did it to save democracy “

He runs for second term, and appoints new justices. Maybe hold some senators families hostage to make sure the justices get the votes they need

THEN the new Supreme Court over turns the idea that presidents have immunity.

Tie the case up in court for as long as Biden is alive and we all go back to the way things were.

  7. Supreme Court justices should be on the ballot every 4 years, but they need to get 60% “nays” to be removed from the Supreme Court. The people should get a say. Period.

Does anyone think Biden is formulating an actual plan of action to exploit the eventual “100% presidential immunity” ruling that is coming? What could he realistically do before the election to prevent Trump from regaining power?

They are all all-in on Trump winning. What if he doesn’t?

  10. I’ve been thinking about this all morning: if you have a chance to kill Hitler, and that’s the best way to prevent your country from being a fascist country, are you morally obliged to do so? Even if it may be considered not democratic?

Now change the name Hitler to someone else, or maybe a few other judges too.

These clowns don’t care how history remembers them because they know that the average American has the attention span of a gnat.

  12. Our democracy has survived quite well without presidential immunity. The Supreme Court is responsible for protecting our democracy regardless of their devotion to an ex criminal president. No one is above the law including an ex criminal president. It’s obvious that Trump has created complete chaos in order to get away with his crimes and turn our democracy into a dictatorship. Those who support Trump are equally responsible for the destruction of our democracy.

  13. Sounds like scotus want to legalise any attempts to overthrow the US governments

He’s always been like this. Take anyone’s dime-a-dozen retired Fox News grandpa who used to be in a law firm or higher ed, and stick him on the Supreme Court. That’s Alito. In the past he was simply more restrained, and forced to confine his cranky sophistry to impotent dissents that no one read outside a small circle or court-watchers and aspiring law clerks.

How ironic. The body overseeing US law deems it’s okay for the POTUS to be lawless.

Pres Joe should go get a parking ticket and challenge it based on Presidential Immunity up to the SC. Parking is an official act

  17. Alito’s reasoning was bananas, coming from a Supreme Court Justice of all people. His argument was basically that democracy would be in peril if presidents face accountability because the justice system doesn’t work. He, a guy in a position that is literally responsible for fixing what the justice system gets wrong.

By the same reasoning, why do we bother holding anyone accountable for anything? We should eradicate all laws entirely. You could be falsely accused of a crime you didn’t commit and unfairly lose access to some of your constitutional rights, so we shouldn’t bother prosecuting anyone for anything just to be safe.

They’ve lost the right to the title “Justice”. They should now be called Supreme Court Embarrassments, or possibly Disgrace.

For some reason, it never occurred to me that Trump was probably living in an alternative reality. I suppose a part of me always thought he was aware and was utilizing his political capital to make moves.

It’s becoming more clear to me that he’s actually living in an echo chamber surrounded by yes men, and totally detached from reality. He’s told what he wants to hear.

  21. Genuine question: is there anything that prevents the court from waiting for the outcome of the November election before they rule on this case? If Trump wins, they can rule he has absolute immunity. If he loses, they can go the other way. What’s to stop them?

  22. KnowingDoubter on

The people who are most shocked by this also thought Hillary was a fascist racist neocon and the supreme court didn’t really matter.
