I still don’t understand why Carney was okay with expanding dental care, when the 5% NATO defence spending target was already public knowledge in May. Expanding and then cutting a healthcare program potentially in a year or two is a bad look.
This article actually suggests a great plan in my opinion. Minimum pain, though it assumes we can get a lot from improved tax enforcement, which seems tough but worth a try.
Can’t cut budgets without decreasing services. Given inflation, even holding the line on spending is effectively a cut.
Or maybe , just maybe stop overspending on government programs like the government payroll system that is costing how many billions? Or stop wasting money on used military surplus that never worked…like used British diesel submarines.
When a simple off the shelf payroll systems could of been purchased at a fraction of the cost.
And spend on proper programs…like our military and new equipment, either we build it new or we should buy it new.
Here is a plan, let’s leverage our natural resources that we have in abundance, instead of giving it away to the Americans for a 20% share .
Also let’s reduce some government posts and positions…we are a country of less then 50,000,000 people , we don’t need politician representation that is equal to a country that has double that population at $200,000 per person per year + office budget+++ oh yeah , let’s not forget those indexed pensions…that very few Canadians have…
Spoken like a true politician! There is and easier way and that is to grow trade with other nations increasing the size of our economy and thusly the GDP which will allow us to do all of these things without cutting or raising taxes if done correctly. The catch you have to give up on this net zero pipe dream that will never happen and will amount to zero carbon emissions drop on a global scale.
The government all ready taxes in to the dirt. Lets cut parliament wages to cover some the spending. Travel on a commercial plane perhaps rather than personal ones, While I agree we’ve let leadership drop the ball on defence spending due to the reliance on the Americans to protect us. It’s been that way since the 60s. You can’t expect to just bounce back to current level of defence that should have been done, overnight on this tax payers back. The middle class are sinking…
