I’m giving Carney the benefit of the doubt on this one. There’s a joke about how all of Trump’s stupid moves are actually 5D chess but Carney might actually be playing 5D chess here, time will tell.

There’s a fine line between letting Trump think he’s winning, and actually letting him win. With the DST repeal, he has clearly crossed into the latter.
France went through this exact same thing during Trump’s first term. They enacted their DST. Trump threatens 100% tariffs on French champagne, cheese, and luxury goods. So what did France do? They said:
>“We’ll collect the tax, but hold off enforcement while OECD talks proceed.”
What happened next? Trump suspended his tariffs. No escalation followed. France kept its law. That’s how you deal with Trump.
They showed that you don’t have to „beat“ Trump. You just have to not lose. His ultimate weakness is that he’s always desperate for a quick win. If you simply deny him that by resisting and waiting him out, then he always backs off.
That’s the job that Canadians hired Carney to do. But instead of resisting Trump, Carney didn’t even show up to the fight. He sold us out, plain and simple. Had Poilievre done this, he’d be getting raked over the coals for this, and rightfully so. But for some reason, everyone’s keen to let Carney off the hook for this betrayal. How pathetic.
