Everyone will have to use the tradesman’s entrance
how does a door not work? has anyone tried turning the handle and giving it a good push?
I thought this was unbelievable the other day so looked for where it’s been done cheaper and it does seem insanely expensive to do anything on these kind of buildings.
For example just making part of Durham Cathedral wheelchair accessible cost £12m. According to a historic England article about that the issue is that as soon as you do anything in relation to the fabric of the building you uncover a load of structural stuff that’s out of sight out of mind and “could come down, could be in 50 years could be in 500” and you don’t want to risk it, so you put in a door you have to do work on the arch, which then leads to work on the floor and the corridor connecting to it etc. And it turns out stone masons cost a bomb.
Why the door doesn’t work is nothing to do with that of course!
It works – it’s just that nobody who’s tried it is clever enough to work out it’s a pull door rather than a push door.
With this comment I’m subtly implying that all members of the British political class are of substandard intelligence.
Or „stupid cunts“ as they’re known colloquially.
To review, I’m saying all politicians are stupid cunts.
Use the money Lady Michelle Mone will return from her corrupt PPE contracts. About £120m.
If it’s keeping the plebs out it works as expected.
The cost does sound ridiculously high for a new door.
But its a UNESCO World Heritage site and you don’t just rock up to one of those and start making changes. There will be a huge amount of work and planning that goes into it so they don’t damage anything. It took them the best part of 2 years to do so its probable they will have uncovered plenty of obstacles when they started doing the work.
My guess is that the reason someone needs to be stationed there to operate it is because its not finished rather than being broken.
Doesn’t mean that it should have cost nearly £10m to do though and hopefully there will be an inquiry.

Can anyone think of a more fitting metaphor for that building’s contents?
Would just make way more logical and progressive sense to build a bloody new political building, modern, with enough room for everyone and stop sitting/standing crammed into a building that should clearly be a historic museum. But no the UK continues to hold on to its weirdness and lack of wanting to join the 21st century.

Most of the members of the House of Lords don’t work either to be fair.
How does a door not work? Did they forget to put hinges on it or something?
It’s wild that a building could stand and work for 200 to a 1000 years, and then some bloke called Gary could bodge it and break it in the space of 10 minutes.
There was probably a buildings, doors, heritage, colour, noise, environmental, health and safety etc consultants. Charge rate £1000 per hour multiple consultations sessions.
Wonder how many people milked the system on this job.
