At least they seem aware of it. M3GAN was a natural icon of the moment, the entire sequel felt forced.
Finding something that works and running it into the ground is a time honored Hollywood tradition.
The fact that they didn’t understand their own character kind of tells you all you need to know about the current state of big budget movie making.
I feel like they will still make more movies in this franchise.
Blumhouse thinking they can do anything is so fucking funny. They produce mass volumes of shit, and every once in a while—something sticks. And then they ruin it lol.
It’s a failure of the marketing department. Barely any promotion it in the gay community
The first one was a cool little thriller. When I watched the trailer I didn’t know wtf I was seeing. They turned what was menacing into a vaudeville, b-movie line spouting, zany cartoon character. Sequel looked ridiculous.

The wrong people have power,money and leadership roles
Probably releasing it during the summer was not a good move with that race car movie and another remake about dragons. But at least give them some credit, they didn’t copy the original formula of the first film and made something different so good for them. Not a blumhouse fan at all because they’ve been mining nostalgia for years now and those Halloween films suck and some of those other horror remakes they’ve been responsible for.
I know I am in the minority here, but I loved M3GAN 2.0! It felt like a cheerleader movie. Like, the first movie was fun in its own way, and now it was time for the filmmakers to cheer Megan on and watch her do so much crazier shit.
I loved the turn to being a sassy good guy. And I loved the genre switch. And I loved all the crazy stuff they did in the flick.
I would love to see Megan tackle other genres. Heist movie where she recruits other AI’s to do whatever. Courtroom drama where she has to defend her actions to a jury of her AI peers. Post apocalyptic movie where Cady is long gone and we see her dealing with that. I don’t mind if the sequels bounce all over the place in genre and timeline.
I don’t even mind if they go back to horror. Even if they do odd movies in the franchise are horror and even numbered are [*picks genre from a hat*]. Would I watch a Megan rom com? Yep!
I do agree though that moving the movie to a summer release was flying too close to the sun. Lots of major competition and Megan isn’t that big.
But man, this meat sack freaking loved M3GAN 2.0. Bravo, I say. Bravo!

WTF? It took Nightmare on Elm Street a pile of movies to sloooowly move Freddie in that direction. They wanted to do it after 1 movie?
