We afford to lose hundred of thousands of jobs linked to trade and 1Trillions in traded good. „Losing 1B“ a year with the cancellation of the DST is not noticeable. The stupid move was to reduce the first federal tax bracket that is going to cost us well over 30B over 5 years. saving 14$ every 2 weeks is going to help anybody.
These people whining don’t understand the tech giants were just passing on the cost of the tax to Canadian businesses in the form of surcharges on advertising and cloud services, something businesses can’t avoid in this day and age.
The surcharges were already appearing on their invoices to Canadian business customers.
In the end, it was Canadians that would actually be paying the tax, either via lower Canadian business profits or passing it’s cost down to end consumers, leading to more inflation. The tech giants were never going to absorb the cost of the tax out of their own profits.
Both the Canadian Business Council and Canadian Chamber of Commerce had put out statements last week telling the Canadian Government to forget about it, as it was a stupid tax in the first place that nobody in the Canadian business community wanted, and not a hill worth dying over.
