This race was not even close. It might get closer but every projection had Cuomo up early only to lose via RCV later on after several rounds. … This really should be a signal to the Democratic Party that new leadership is wanted

Didn’t the Mamdani winning polls take until like the 7th round for him to win? Cuomo got beat badly here.

Not even particularly close. +120k margin vs the +7k margin from 2021.

We should have ranked choice for every election.

gotta love ranked choice.

Is the actual election for mayor also ranked choice?

How anyone can vote for Cuomo is mind blowing

Every person voting in the midterms needs to show up and vote in the primaries. It’s the only way things are going to change. The primary arguably matters more than the general at this point.

So Democratic leadership and various NY Democratic politicians like Sen. Gillibrand are gonna endorse him now, *right*?
Vote blue no matter who, *right*?

No one will beat him in november and everyone who tries to smear him will look dumb. Looking at you kristen!

I don’t know if there is anyone on the planet that thought he’d win by 12 points

What cope will they come up with now. If Cuomo won by 0.1% youd see headlines on all the mainstream media outlets about how democrats have to move right. Zohran crushes Cuomo and all you see are headlines about intifada and not realistic policies and fleeing rich people lol.

You see Millennials and Gen Z, when we turn out we win.

The nice thing about ranked choice is you get to see certain people lose again and again and again, all in one election.
I kinda want that for Presidential elections, tbh.

Maybe Cuomo will finally understand what the word NO means and drop this run in the general bullshit (Spoilers: >!he won’t!<).

Cuomo still got 44 % !?

Next up, AOC needs to primary Schumer.
And someone else needs to primary Jeffries.
Friendly reminder that a genuine progressive and Justice Democrat co-founder Saikat Chakrabarti is going to primary Nancy Pelosi against an AIPAC-propped DINO.

Mamdani focused on bread and butter issues and stayed on message without throwing his core supporters under the bus. I don’t necessarily agree with all his proposals, particularly the rent freeze, but I hope he wins the general. Democratic Socialists appear to be the only ones determined to change things for the better.

Progressives are fed up with neoliberals doing absolutely nothing to oppose the fascist takeover. Expect the midterm primaries to change up the makeup of the Democratic Party. Now party leadership is doing their best to keep a grasp on their power, but when the party changes they’ll lose their jobs.

Disappointed they consolidated the removal of all of the other candidates into one round – would have liked specific breakdowns of how the votes moved from candidate to candidate like how they did in 2021. Though that should probably be easy enough to reconstruct from CVR data once that’s released.

Cuomo will still be on the ballot in November as an independent after losing the democratic primary.
Just another way to pull votes away from an actual progressive.

I didn’t know NYC has adopted ranked choice voting. I think that’s cool.
I hope more big cities adopt and popularize it.
It seems like one (if not the only) remaining way to force politicians out of the extreme edges

Good. Maybe Cuomo can fade into obscurity. This needs to happen across this nation.

Everyone complains about Dems being corporate but no one ever shows up to primary them, thank fuck New Yorkers proved that wrong, I hope other people follow!

My lord that is an ass whooping when the funding context is added. If this was financially even, how much worse would it have been?

The funny thing to me is all these MAGAs freaking out over this and they still have to wait until January for the new mayor to be sworn in and by that point they will have all probably forgotten because they all have the memories of goldfish
