Anyone have a sense of how much the impact comes from workers deported vs workers just not showing up for fear of being deported? I assumed the latter is worse than the former.
Oh no, the poor farmers. They bought up all the land they could, and then planted far more crops than they could ever afford to harvest (without illegally cheap labour), let alone what they needed to feed themselves

Who could ever have predicted that scaring away the entire farm labor force would mean the crops don’t get harvested?

As a home-gardener, the idea of 77% of American farmers 1) voting for Trump 2) watching their bounty rot…is pure.

The farmers will march on Washington before they bend over and pick their own crops!
As long as we still have immigrant labor on the golf courses it’s a win Trump doesn’t eat vegetables anyway.

No worries, MAGA don’t eat their veggies anyway… who has ever heard of drive-thru broccoli??

The rot was probably tracked into the fields, after ICE had contact with occupants of the White House.

Weird that ICE doesn’t raid a Trump golf course, which are infamous for their use of immigrant labor

I was told that these people are stealing jobs from Americans, so it stands to reason that if those people that are stealing jobs from Americans are taken away, then those Americans can take those jobs back and work. So, why are headlines like these so common? why arent there Americans LINING UP to take those jobs and complete the job at hand? /s

Oh no. Maybe the farmers shouldn’t have been encouraging and profiting from a culture of illegal indentured servitude. The virtue signaling from the Left on this is quite sad. One would THINK they would applaud the end of something two steps away from slave labor.

Is there a single argument for this not being exactly what was promised/what they voted for?
It could not be more cut and dry. You were told this would happen

Hey but now the corporate mega farms that can withstand a year of losses can buy up the few remaining family farms and they can tell Americans “ no Medicaid assistance unless you harvest on the mega farms”. Yay!
Then they’ll link your RFK wearable up and take your whole mega farm paycheck because the government decided you’re a high health risk. Fuck, the future is bright eh?!

I think Trump minimized the effect of rotting food on the vine by canceling USAID and this should not be a worry about food story.

As awful as Sonny Perdue is, when he was Ag Secretary during the first Trump term, he managed to keep Trump from doing this to farmers.
Sonny had personal experience when Governor of Georgia. He cracked down on immigrant labor and then had to bail out the farmers when they didn’t have workers to harvest.

Time for another round of payouts to farmers.
