The obvious question would be how much do openness and ‚leftness‘ correlate. I suspect they are very nearly the same thing.
Bascially im not at all suprised by lack of actual care about the issue by people in power if this is true. Even people who stand to massivly benefit from the fight agaist climate change (Musk as a great example) dont do anything that could even come close too stop or slowing it.
