Local Labour parties are meant to select parliamentary candidates with strong ties to the area and an understanding of local needs and concerns. However, McSweeney and the Labour right have overridden this principle, imposing shortlists of loyalists in defiance of established party rules and historical precedent.
Obviously didn’t work that well…
It’s actually quite hilarious the r/HENRYUK sub is now up in arms over possibly more tax on the middle class now that welfare plans have been binned. What did you all expect?
Absolutely mad, pushing for policy that is ripping the labour party apart over a saving goal of £5bn per year. Surely focusing on the £35bn per year waste in government inefficiencies would have been a better fight to pick. Something is really damn messed up with our country’s politics.
There shouldn’t be a right wing of the Labour party.

Starmer was actually planning to do something to support the WORKING people like Labour is supposed to do (its in the fucking name), but apparently Labour has become the party of supporting unaffordable welfare.
Is it really such a hard thing to implement optional work and employment support for people on benefits? In a way that doesn’t employ negative reinforcement, blame, and threats of cancellation or withheld payments if they don’t do everything they’re told?
Roll out the ‚try to work scheme‘ alone without the cancellations?
How about not defunding two prior employment programs that were actually successfully helping me get into work?
Drop the ‚any jobs a job‘ mentality and focus on benefit claimant’s individual strengths and abilities?
Pathways into training or apprenticeships for gaining the skills they might require before going right into work?
TLDR – Why not actually SUPPORT disabled people into meaningful work rather than forcing them to just work in a warehouse?
I could easily do a law apprenticeship, starting right at the postgraduate level, based on my life experience and self learning and reading, but will they actually let me onto one?
Can’t afford, and wouldn’t pay for current uni prices, would love to do such an apprenticeship in a non physical role, put my magical verbal logic IQ autism to actual use in something I could easily do. Cant do much but speak, write and argue, but hey, thats basically what law is.
