A top Democratic senator has joined the mostly right-wing chorus of Islamophobic attacks against Zohran Mamdani, launching a shockingly racist tirade riddled with lies against the party’s recently elected Muslim mayoral candidate for New York City.
Last week, New Yorkers elected Mamdani as the Democratic nominee for November’s mayoral general election, beating out scandal-ridden former Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Despite the young progressive skyrocketing in popularity, his campaign faced repeated attacks from the right on his identity as a Muslim American immigrant – attacks that only increased after his primary win.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand from New York. I regret voting for her and will never again. Idiot. Cuomo is her choice? She sabotaged Al Franken and now she wants Cuomo? If he is the nominee Kirsten do you want a Republican?
Wow. People are really worried about Zohran becoming the next mayor of New York. He stood up and talked about helping the working class and speaks out against wealth inequality. Someone needs to say it, wealth inequality is at its worst point in American history. Way to go New York.
She led the charge to get Al Franken to resign for something, far less offensive. She should resign.
Can’t believe how Democrats have a lot more courage when they are fighting essentially against one of their own. If this continues the old democratic guard will have nothing left of the old party. It is looking like they will end up kicking themselves out. A new generation of younger folks with true ability to fight will take over.

Karen Gillibrand is a fifth column in the Democratic caucus. She is very committed to the attack against Democrats that stand for anything, like Franken and Mamdani, but utterly incapable of standing up to Republicans.

Gillibrand is basically using the „lots of people are saying“ argument (like Trump does all the time) to then assert that what those people are saying is true.
I would like to remind her of what John McCain said when someone accused Obama of being an „Arab“ at the height of the birther BS:
„No ma’am, he’s a decent family man, citizen, that I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues, and that’s what this campaign is all about.“
He didn’t use the consipracy to score points. Class act.
I’m the first to criticize Trump supporters for lack of critical thinking. Evidently, it is an affliction that compromises both sides of the aisle.
Remember when Bernie was running on the platform and the DNC did everything in their power to make sure Hillary was the candidate? They’re scared of the people.
As a former donor to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committe, of which Gillibrand is chair for 2026, I’ve made clear to the DSCC that I won’t donate any further money to them until Gillibrand apologizes (or resigns). I urge others to do the same.
Hope everyone is paying attention – these people are scared to death of real working class politics.

She’s one of my senators, I sent her an email telling her I voted for her in the past but her firm rebuke of Mumdani and lack of the same for Trump tells me everything I need to know about her for the future and that kind of behavior is what will continue to cause the Dems to lose.
