The NYC housing market, like everywhere else, is unbelievably overpriced, and that is a very modest house. That would go for $300k at least even here in bumfuck.
The average price of a home in the Bronx today is around 600k. These people are impossibly stupid.
Also, most people DON’T buy a house outright, they take out mortgages and pay those off after several years. Her father took out a mortgage for 150k, value of the house went up and the mother sold it years later. These people either don’t understand basic concepts or they just lie like a rug. I’m inclined to believe it is a mixture of the two in this case.
I live in am 800sqft townhouse in LA. According to Zillow it’s worth about $700k. I guess I’m privileged in that I’m not homeless, but I’m firmly middle class. Like, almost dead mean.
People pay to live in nice places. That’s why you can buy a mansion in Oklahoma for the price of a Corvette.

So, the house she grew up in much less expensive than the other houses in the area.
Looking at the picture of it, I’d be shocked if it had more than 3 bedroom. If it does have 3 bedrooms, they’d be tiny. It’s a small house.

600k to 800k is pretty affordable in an affluent area near nyc. I saw the picture of her house. It was pretty modest and probably the smallest worst house in a good school district. Lots of working parents buy houses like this so their children can go to good schools. It makes me like her more.
