I don’t really understand why Ottawa would offer any lump sum if they even agreed to it. Wouldn’t the optimal thing from their perspective basically just be to say, the portion of your pension earned up to a hypothetical departure from CPP gets paid by CPP (and CPP keeps the assets), and the portion earned after in the new APP gets paid by that plan?
I.e. Alberta starts fresh.
I think the real goal of these panels it to learn how to market their ideas to Albertans, and hand paycheques to conservatives who will turn around and use that money to promote the parties positions online. They never actually listen to the results, just adjust the way they market them to the public.
When it comes to separatism, there is so much misinformation floating around online it’s boosting the position to an effect that just would not be possible otherwise. Talk to any young person and they’ve been bombarded with hundreds of pro-separatist messages on every social media platform.
There is billions of dollars being funnelled into social media promoting these positions across Alberta right now, I thought things would normalize after the election, only for the heat to get turned up as „Republican Party of Alberta“ started paying people to hand out material across the province.
This is a battle of information, and the other side has already invested heavily into the fight.
