As an avid backcountry recreator, thank goodness. Fuck Mike Lee for even considering it, and fuck him even more for doubling down on it through the process despite overwhelming bipartisan opposition from constituents all across the west. Our public lands are some of the greatest and most beautiful places in the world, and losing any of them is unacceptable.
Now if only Mike Lee’s political career was too.

The worst was them trying to pass it off as „housing relief“ when no one except wealthy billionaires are going to be building homes out in the wilderness, with no jobs, no roads, no utilities, no healthcare or groceries. Just 10,000 acres surrounded by electrified razor-wire fence for themselves, their security staff and their housekeepers.

I’m super proud of everyone that spoke up on this issue. I stood beside ppl with completely different political views from my own but we were united on this issue. We all made noise and it absolutely made a difference.

I started sarcastic but thought about Alaska, Cascadia, and Sequoia and got kind of misty-eyed. Thank goodness we can keep public lands. I feel like we can recover from other things in due time, but this one would’ve been truly abominable.
