      There is actually psychological resonance here that’s being deployed, imo.

      My dad is in his 80’s, and very MAGA, but never cared much about politics until Trump came along. My dad was an only child of a frequently absent mother, who grew up outhouse-poor and *never knew who his father was.* He was lonely, isolated, and definitely always felt the absence of something missing, something he was supposed to have, someone else who was supposed to love him.

      He became a miraculously excellent loving father, but every time I see this „Daddy“ stuff, I feel a pang of sorrow for the inner child of people who still yearn so deeply for the feeling that they are seen and loved that they project that missing comfort onto a man like Trump.

      I am angry, terrified, and yes, resentful of these people for voting for this guy and defending him. But at the same time I feel so deeply sad for them, for the way this MAGA movement has exploited and profited from their deepest, unconscious, unmet emotional needs. I hate MAGA for this, viscerally, but I’m not without compassion for its victims.

      We’re seeing the real effects of what happens when men aren’t allowed to be publicly emotional or confront their feelings and work through them. Daddy issues abound in the MAGACULT.
