The real scam is with these wallets showing these the fake value of these scam coins without checking liquidity. I think if I were to make a crypto wallet, I would definitely block all these obvious scam coins from showing up to trade, or at least warn the user about it (while not showing the fake value of the scam coins).

    3. If you are looking for a likely explanation to how this scam works:

      1. Scammer creates scamcoin
      2. Scammer creates fake trade website that asks you to „connect your wallet“ when it actually signs you on a smart contract allowing it full access to your funds.
      3. Scammer temporarily enables trading on defi platform, does a few trades to give the coin value, disables defi trading afterwards.
      4. Scammer sends this fake coin to people with some message saying how they can sell it using the fake site on step 2.
      5. Scammer steals wallet contents they got from strep 2

Put $1 in a liquidity pool with 0.000001 tokens and presto, 1 token is now worth a millions dollars.

      node operator scam algorithm.

lots of layer 2 coins have fake amounts.

so be very very careful when buying layer 2 garbage.

the network fees can also be manipulated to tricking people into thinking that $100 can get you X amount of coins.

but when you want to trade it back, the network fee is still $100.

do that transaction enough, and the node operators are pocketing all the scam fee translator contract fees.

pretty much overly inflated network fees.

now imagine 10,000 people trading in to a layer 2 shitcoin, and then realizing that they cannot do anything about it, so they have to spend another $100, to convert it back and the $100 fee has to be spent again to get their coins back.

$1M just to convert to layer-2 shitcoin.

And then $1M to convert it back from those users.

Scammer just made $2M on shitcoin revenue from fees.

so if you’re thinking about trying to trade shit with „modest fee costs“ – think about the scammer catching these people off guard in the thousands.

leave it alone. transfer your safe assets out and abandon the wallet.

just for the record, if your friends ask you to invest in a layer-2 on BASE network, just be warned, those coins can go to zero at any moments notice.
