The Iranian regime is at a crisis point after the US and Israel’s attacks on the country, and what comes next could threaten the West, experts have said.

Iran has survived the [12-day war with Israel](https://inews.co.uk/topic/iran-israel-conflict?srsltid=AfmBOoo9Eg1tCYSq2Vlj5RafbkfcoNrc-mgEwAo2vwbQWxtkwqtGJJ1Q&ico=in-line_link) but still faces internal and external threats to its rule.

[Reza Pahlavi](https://inews.co.uk/news/world/my-father-was-the-shah-of-iran-starmer-cant-appease-the-ayatollah-3764834?srsltid=AfmBOorYjl_wqTkHivSKmGRGSFSVz09dILNRD5p7F7WVsvi8ZzeeithT&ico=in-line_link), the exiled son of Iran’s last monarch who was overthrown by the Islamic Revolution of 1979, declared a “Berlin Wall moment” on the eve of the ceasefire as he appealed to the military to abandon a regime that he claimed was “near collapse”.

Maryam Rajavi, head of the MEK opposition faction that is a US-designated terror group, issued a separate call on Tuesday to the Iranian people to “bring down [Ayatollah Ali] Khamenei and the dictatorship.”

[Israel](https://inews.co.uk/topic/israel?srsltid=AfmBOorROPsXAXh5-RKlhUFZehc-lk3c_31_QC6nQPeCaAq3F1jkbLMS&ico=in-line_link), which has [cultivated a loose alliance](https://jcpa.org/why-did-israel-invite-the-exiled-iranian-crown-prince-to-visit/) with Pahlavi’s monarchist movement, has signalled that their campaign against Iran will continue in a different form. “We are transitioning to a new phase,” said Israel Defence Forces chief of staff Eyal Zamir on Tuesday.

Israeli media and military analysts [suggest](https://x.com/i24NEWS_EN/status/1937538552436339024) this will be similar to the models established in [Lebanon](https://inews.co.uk/topic/lebanon?srsltid=AfmBOoptauBUsPHlrpzuG-hkZZg7P0iP2ZMDkcP9n17kYJl07OAM1ZcU&ico=in-line_link) and [Syria](https://inews.co.uk/category/news/syria?srsltid=AfmBOoqCS6xNMMJkVgu1-s2oCer_yoeRmxNAf6_TaIjonTfdSq_Kt-ex&ico=in-line_link), where Israeli warplanes have broad freedom of operation to strike against any perceived threat.

The US could also launch further attacks on Iran if it moves to reconstitute its nuclear programme, as Tehran has promised, [Donald Trump](https://inews.co.uk/topic/donald-trump?srsltid=AfmBOoqtbFxca0PfNAcr07P_EgxzgXHo-MTEPze7Bm5pIlamxGQGOUsD&ico=in-line_link) [said on Wednesday](https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/trump-suggests-us-would-strike-again-if-iran-rebuilt-nuclear-programme-2025-06-25/).

Khamenei declared in a speech on Thursday: “Surrender will never happen, our nation is powerful,” and that any future aggression against Iran would come at a great cost.

But while the regime is reeling from the blows inflicted by Israel and the US against military leaders, nuclear and missile programmes, and government ministries, it is unclear if any opposition group can take advantage.

It looks like china will step in to keep the current regime in power. With strings attached of course.

 China has long wanted to control Iran  for their belt and road project and to build a oil pipeline from the Caspian Sea to China. 

A shattered Iran with potential nuclear grade Uranium floating around needs to be a major concern.
