>While speaking at a masterclass at the Biarritz’ Nouvelles Vagues Festival, Coppola said she “[doesn’t] really like violent films.”
>“There’s so much gun violence in my country,” she said. “It’s really hard to see [those] movies. Old cowboys are cool, but just the way [violence] is overdone now is upsetting.”
>Coppola, who flew from New York to be the guest of honor at the third edition of Nouvelles Vagues Festival in the picturesque south-western town of Biarritz, cited Martin Scorsese as a filmmaker whose movies have violence that serves a narrative purpose. “I love Scorsese, so there are moments for it,” she said, adding that “violent themes can be interesting or insinuating. But really, gory, not so much for me.”

Do they use an ai to make these headlines? Cause that’s just a small part of what this article is about.

It is almost like America is a nation born in violence that excels in celebrating and exporting it to the entire world

It does get fatiguing. I usually tune away from it.

You know, in the rest of the world we manage to watch violent movies and still not have high levels of gun violence. I don’t think movie violence is the real root of America’s gun problem.

I can put on a movie without there being a massive shoot out and me having to turn it down. It’s pretty annoying.

The solution to every problem is shooting someone in most movies.

I love how an artist sharing her thoughts and preferences in what she watches is published by a journalist like the artist was making a statement calling for change.

That’s funny my friends and I just watched mission impossible. None of us are tired of actions movies. Sounds like trash take from a rich celebrity. How about you make movies and stop telling people what we should or shouldn’t like. Because action genre is not going anywhere.
This is why Hollywood movies flop. You have rich out of touch actors and writers who think they can force us to like their projects. Nope we’ll continue watching what we like and if you make a trash movie it’ll flop. Action movies aren’t flopping so clearly we aren’t tired of violent movies

I watched her get brutally slaughtered in an episode of *What We Do in the Shadows* just a few years ago. For what it’s worth.

I’m sorry but that’s bullshit. Hell there aren’t nearly as many gun driven action movies these days as there were when I was growing up. Yeah sure we have Mission and John Wick and Statham movies but I feel like most action these days is driven by superpowers while more old fashioned stuff is direct to video or streaming. Nah, I don’t agree at all with that.

She’s part of the same hypocrisy, and it applies to her family.

Bro, I think about Sofia Coppola all the time when I am teabagging my dead opponents. Lost in Translation is a common thought thread when playing „Nanhunt“ or GTA.
I care sooooooo much about her opinion

I very much look forward to hearing Quentin Tarantino’s response to this one

This reminds me that I saw Hot Fuzz when it first came out and I was like, look at the over the top violence, they’re making fun of American movies haha!
And then years later I saw it and the violence no longer registered as over the top. It was „movie normal“.

What’s the percentage of movies annually that DONT have some sort of violence? Either way seeing someone get blown to hell or seeing someone getting their spine ripped out adds spice imo
