Hallo!

    1. MediterraneanCunt on

Amazon.de removed German VAT and added Maltese VAT (€14.76) at checkout based on your shipping address. That’s why the price jumped from €81.99 to €96.75. It’s normal for EU-to-EU orders, but Amazon doesn’t show it clearly until the final step. You’re not blind—just caught in Amazon’s confusing VAT display system.

    2. Why is yours like that? Mine shows a listing with a price and when checking out only shipping is added to the cost.

Amazon.de and orders to Malta as well.

    3. Just because it’s on Amazon.de doesn’t mean it’s being shipped from the EU, unfortunately.

I’ve had to be careful about this myself in the past…sometimes that really cheap item you clicked on is actually coming from China…several shops on every Amazon site (even the other EU ones) are based out of China or other non-EU countries and that can end up with you being charged VAT and customs duties.

Edit: You also might want to try using something like send-on services to have the delivery made into Germany first to avoid anything where maybe the VAT rates are different in Germany than they are in Malta.

    4. Could you be buying something shipping from the UK or somewhere outside the EU?

The fact it says “estimated” means they’re not the ones charging it. They probably take a prepayment which is then adjusted based on whatever customs decides to charge.
