I remember reading that Emma Caufield volunteered to have Anya die in the Buffy series finale because she didn’t want to revisit the character, but she performed Anya in the “Slayers” audiobook that Amber Benson wrote a couple of years ago. My guess it was really Whedon that she never wanted to revisit.
Tara, Drusilla, and Cordelia were in Slayers as well, as it is an alternate universe story… that may hint at the direction the new series might be taking.
