In a [short, one-paragraph order](https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24pdf/24a1153_l5gm.pdf), the Republican justices ruled on Monday evening that President Donald Trump may effectively nullify a federal law and an international treaty that is supposed to protect immigrants from torture. The Court’s order in [*Department of Homeland Security v. D.V.D.*](https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24pdf/24a1153_l5gm.pdf) does not explain the GOP’s justices’ reasoning, although Justice Sonia Sotomayor responds to their silent decision in a 19-page dissent joined by her two Democratic colleagues.
The Court’s order is only temporary, and will permit Trump to send immigrants to countries where they may be tortured while the *D.V.D.* case is fully litigated. It is possible that one or more of the Court’s Republicans could reverse course at a later date. But it is hard to know what arguments might persuade them to do so because the justices in the majority did not explain why they decided this case the way they did.

I could post several links to this type of ruling from 1930’s Germany… But that would still not help explain just how bad this is to those wanting this to happen.

It’s weird that they can deport anyone anywhere without proving that they’re guilty of what they are accused of. When might an American have the opportunity to prove that they’re American if they’re caught in a net?

The Supreme Court just stripped literally everyone of their right to due process.
Because if you don’t have due process, then the people who want to arrest you don’t have to prove that you’re a citizen. It doesn’t matter if you’re an immigrant, if you were born here, or if your family has been here for centuries. You won’t be given the opportunity to prove it.
When there is no due process for the abducted how do you plan on proving your citizenship when they snatch you up?
The Founding Fathers would not be able to comprehend this level of bitchmade shit. Who abdicates their own branch of government?
Everyday, we lose just a little bit more of what is considered to be American. If they can pick a person off the street, from a business, or church and transport them to another country without due process, what’s stopping them from doing it to YOU?!

I checked out this antiquated old document today in the New York Public Library called the Bill of Rights. Amazing to see something that used to mean something now reduced to a fading piece of ancient history.

I’m personally not surprised that the SCOTUS’s Republican/Conservative judges are pro-torture.
