    1. If I were the boss of a rival supermarket chain, I’d be introducing remote working policies on head office staff in retaliation.

Not only would you attract talent by doing this, you’d also make people want to shop at your store to spite Morrisons.

      How are Morrison’s doing?

Just… This seems the sort of thing a struggling company would do.

    3. So they’re going from a 37.5 hour 4 and a half day week to a five day week. I don’t see how that improves customer service unless it’s actually about getting some unpaid work out of staff answering phones on their lunch break.

Papering over the cracks to try and make it look like leadership means business.

    5. Three day working weeks are ideal. I’ve tried it all, from 7 days a week of 12 hour shifts, right down do one 90 minute shift per week, and by far, the sweet spot for me is definitely three – eight to twelve hour shift per week, with four days off.

Smacks of middle management golgafrincham b-ark types worried about their jobs if they’ve no one to micromanage in person.

    7. Now they get to sit on a bank of desks in an office while they’re on a Teams calls rather than being at home for them.

    8. This screams Piss off the staff so that a load walk out. This way no redundancies to pay out etc.

    9. My local Morrisons’ chillers don’t work above 25°C and i’ve spent 20 minutes queuing at the kiosk while three managers stood around watching the queue and laughing with each other.

My bare minimum weekly shop is approximately 30% cheaper at Lidl as well.

They’d probably be doing better if they could sell stock all year round and the staff cared about actual service. Efficiency and customer focus seem to be the last thing on their mind as a business.

    10. I moved to the UK 6 years ago. Every supermarket chain got a fair shot at winning me over.

Literally the only chain I actively avoid is Morrisons. Dogshit own brand products, stores are always a mess, fresh fruit tastes like ass.

    11. I can’t WFH, but I’d love to, and everyone I’ve spoken to who can says their lives are better in almost every measurable way, and studies conclusively show production does not take a hit.

All this will do is cause resentment and tank morale.

Well,  it looks like the beginning of redundancies.  Tell people to come in, wait for them to find new jobs.  Then sack the rest. Text book.

The favourite trick of corporations that want to get rid of staff but not pay redundancies

I had an interesting chat with my old Morrisons delivery driver before I switched due to too many missing items. Normally I’d get an email from an hour up until the slot itself, when the van was leaving on it’s route.

A couple of times I then got an email at like 6am, saying it was on it’s way (for a 1pm slot), with half the items missing. He said they started packing them all first thing in the morning.

Private equity firms schlurping up any money they can from that dead husk.

I had an interview at head office a few years ago with the head of some department or other and it seemed like a toxic environment then. 1 saturday a month working and a 3 day office week despite it being non essential to be on site at all. The guy interviewing seemed slimy as hell too so politely declined the role.

    16. Absolute shell of the company which gave me my first job. 8 years I enjoyed working there. Now whenever I talk to the few old colleagues still there they have nothing positive to say.

The customer service excellence mindset drilled into me at 16 is really lost in the company now.

They have really stripped their USPs as well. The shop is full of garbage and looks a mess.

Its such a shame I can’t imagine Morrisons been here in the next 20 years. I’m glad I didn’t stay.

Morrisons is sinking. This is a cost cutting method to avoid redundancy payments. Enforce nonsense policies to reduce the headcount.

Decimated by Aldi in Rossendale valley.

The quality ( noticeably worse ) , item size ( significantly smaller ) and prices (increased exponentially across all ranges ) especially on baked goods has all but wiped this supermarket out.

This is what happens when private equity groups takeover.

Am I missing something here? People are talking about WFH but it appears that they’re moving from 4.5 day week to a 5 day a week?

    20. Solar-Squirrel on

Every time I go into the local Morrisons it is full of the same four-six staff members across twenty tills and half broken self service machines. Oh and they closed down the fresh fish section.

    21. Mozzers is shit – stinky cesspools, every one I’ve been in. Glad that’s no longer my closest option.
