Hallo allerseits,

    1. If all goes well you’ll likely get both the taxi and the original ticket reimbursed.

    2. File your Fahrgastrechte.

I doubt they will reimburse that huge taxi costs (I think it is capped to 80€), you should’ve gotten a hotel room instead and continue traveling the next day.

      > You can see in my screenshot that’s attached to this message that the app says platform 3, 3 minutes before departure but this train (ICE 120) actually left from platform 12.

I would never trust the app with stuff like the platform, it is sometimes delayed with regards to updates. Always listen to the announcements via speakers (if those didn’t happen then DB really fucked this up)

      > What are the chances DB will reimburse my ticket and taxi fare (…)

Given that you were instructed by a DB employee to go via taxi my guess (just a guess tho) is that you should ge the full taxi money back. For the ticket it should be 50% since the total delay was over 120 minutes. They might fight you over missing ICE 120, that is hard to predict.

      > I’m horrified by this experience and cannot believe how incompetent the train system is in a country like Germany.

Dunno what the „in a country like Germany“ is supposed to mean, if anything the DB is in such a bad state because this is Germany. You know … land of the cars. The government basically didn’t really invest money in the railroad system in decades.

Wow thats so horrendeous.. The thing i am so annoyed as well is that when I am ready way before the departure time, the train will be delayed quite sometimes. But when i was only like 2-5 minutes late by the platform, the train depart on time😂 happened so many times. Op, are you sure you didnt type the email wrong? is it reise or resie?

Can’t say whether DB will try to fight it, but generally you are entitled to have your expenses reimbursed. See [https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/passenger-rights/rail/index_en.htm#cancelled:](https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/passenger-rights/rail/index_en.htm#cancelled🙂

      >Your train was cancelled

      >If you are delayed due to a cancelled train, meaning you would arrive at your final destination with a delay of more than 60 minutes, you have the right to choose between:

      >a refund of your ticket within 30 days – this may be a full or partial refund (covering the part of the journey not made), and a return journey to your initial point of departure, if, the delay due to the cancelled train prevents you from fulfilling the purpose of your trip, or

      >**continuing or re-routing your journey under comparable conditions to reach your final destination at the earliest opportunity, at no additional cost, or**

      >continuing or re-routing your journey at a later date of your choosing under comparable conditions, at no additional cost. This includes alternative transport to get you to your final destination when the train is blocked and the service is suspended.

The section in bold applies in this case.

Since the train that you missed was the last of the day, taking a taxi was presumably the only option available, which would also be why the DB staff instructed you to take one. Therefore it is covered as „comparable conditions“.

Once I got the exact same delay, Duisburg to Amsterdam (well, actually Leiden) but the service desk was still open. I got a voucher for the taxi ride, quite comfy.
You could had also stayed at the hotel next to the station, that would had been reimbursed as well.

    7. For this to work it is key that you booked your full trip in one ticket. Meaning, did you book individual sections seperately or from Leipzig to Haarlem in one booking?

    8. dank u well for trävelling wif Deutsche Bahn.

Our infrastructure is fucked up badly, because people just want to work in the home office. We would have needed workers from all over the world 25 years ago to start rebuilding bridges, streets and train lines.

Instead we leaned back and fondled ourselves.

And you were stuck in Duisburg of all places, my heart goes out to you my man.

Once DB itself arranged a taxi for me which costed around 200 Euros.

Duisburg and Onasbrücke are upon the worst stations for transfers I’ve ever experienced. DB doesn’t account for how unpractical the transfer is at these stations.

I’ve sprinted these stations so many times with luggage, I could do it blind.

Sorry you had this shit experience. DB is pretty terrible when it deals with its DE to NL connections.

    12. I once got stranded due to a storm, but received a comfortable room and the next day’s train tickets paid for by DB. They also reimbursed the cancelled train. Overall, I somehow came out with a plus. Try using the Fahrgastrechte form. If they refuse, keep bugging them via the service hotline.

Where’s the news? First time happened to me in 2011, trip to Prague, ICE to Nürnberg got cancelled, had to take the car to get there. Answer from the customer „service“: cancel the hotel and go home. Nothing has changed since then.

    14. Flimsy_Cheetah_420 on

Shitty company absolutely avoiding this waste of time.

I am sorry for you but as some people already stated you should have booked a hotel over the night.

They won’t compensate the taxi :/, also im flabbergasted by the staff not telling you proper information…

OT: dbahn is partly not allowed in Swiss as they are literally always late. Says everything….

    15. Hey, the guy had to choose between staying in Duisburg and paying 650 euros, I think it’s a reasonable choice to pay 😀
