Jonathan Reynolds is rolling out £275 million like it’s the second coming of the Marshall Plan.
That’s £4 per Brit.
After decades of neglecting skills, pathetically anaemic reforms to our R&D and capital investment incentives, and ignoring regional decline, his big idea is to throw pocket change at the ruins and call it strategy.
This isn’t industrial policy, it’s political taxidermy. Dressing up a dead economy just long enough to wave it at the cameras before the next election embalming.
