We can’t punish our way to a better world and attempting to do so only makes our society crueller, poorer, and more dangerous. Restoration for victims, rehabilitation for offenders, and sincere work towards solving systemic problems is the only effective path to justice.
Career criminals just shrug, pay the bail and then make the money back and then some with the next car they steal. Every time the news mentions they caught X number of criminals who were just released on bail the public will turn more against the idea.
Bail is important for humanitarian reasons, but i dont think it should even be a option for organized crime. If someone gets caught stealing a car and going on a joy ride thats one thing, if someone gets caught stealing a car as part of a international theft ring then fucking no, let them rot.
