While this is an old article, I thought it had some interesting details since so many people point to the downfall of the NDP as the reason the Liberals won. While that is partially true, out of the 17 seats the NDP lost in the election, 10 went to the Conservatives and 7 went to the Liberal Party. In fact, the Bloc Québécois was a big reason for the Liberal win. Of the 13 seats the Bloc lost, 12 went to the Liberals and 1 went to the Conservatives.
Thought this might be interesting since so many people think that if the NDP didn’t collapse, the Conservatives would have won the election. However, the Conservatives actually benefited more from the NDP collapse than the Liberals.

Canadians were and are still faced with an existential issue, last faced in the 1988 federal election that solely over whether to sign a free trade agreement with the USA.
