Canada (like most of the world) does not recognize Taiwanese independence. The government of Taiwan has in fact never declared independence. Historically those governments that recognized the government in Taiwan have recognized it as the government of the entirety of China.
Eesh.
I am Taiwanese-Canadian. I do not see myself as Chinese. I am pro–Taiwan independence.
However:

[CBC](https://www.cbc.ca/news/corrections-clarifications-1.5893564)’s not technically wrong here. There is a dispute; we can’t even fly our own flag at the Olympics. We do not have a seat at the UN. We are excluded from the WHO. I hate it but that’s sort of the way the cookie’s been crumbling for years. This is a nonstory.
But that Bliss and Wisdom group on PEI is **in my opinion** a frigging (pro-CCP) cult so I’m glad CBC’s shining a light on it. Taiwan’s full of these opportunistic quasi-Buddhist/Daoist temples and „teachers“ that just scam old people out of their savings. My grandpa is in one of these groups.
