Hardly surprising. Only a small percentage of the population cares about affordable housing. The majority of households in Canada are homeowners and landlords, who simply become wealthier as housing valuations rise at a rapid rate.
I don’t think anyone expected things to go down to 2004 levels but fuck what a change of tone since the election. First it’s our new housing minister saying house prices won’t be coming down at all and then it’s CMHC already abandoning goals and trying to temper expectations. At what point do we stop calling it a housing crisis if the stance of the government is that this is the new normal and the have-nots are simply gonna have to get over it?
