    1. That’s ok, Reform say carbon dioxide is fine and we should have 3 times more in the atmosphere. So I’m sure they are right.

      > The UK is now 20 times more likely to see a 40°C summer

Fire up the barbecue, it’s going to be a good one.

I’ve seen enough, tax the little people more. This is a climate crisis /s

This is not normal heat! The humidity is absolutely awful here in Islington, North London! Feels like someone can manipulate the weather easily these days

    5. I remember summer 2022 when it got to 40°C.

      Fuck that.

We just don’t have the infrastructure for that kind of heat.

    6. So 20 times more likely than 1960 where the chance was less than 0.5%. So that means there is less than 10% chance of seeing 40°c

    7. daniluvsuall on

Gawd this is scary. I staunchly remember that summer of 40c it was wild, I’d never experienced anything here like it – was so bizarre.

    8. Capital-Ad8143 on

I’d take just a normal summer thanks, lucky if the weather gets above 23

Be on the lookout for dreadful lizard people basking in the sun with a smirk on their faces…

I think we should all panic just for this to happen for two days every 8 years

I reckon it has something to do with immigrants. They probably brought the sun over when they came to take our jobs /s

How many threads are we going to have about this today? Any other topic and they’d be removed as duplicates.

There is no Planet B. We should be greatly accelerating reforestation programmes in this country, cleaning up our rivers, lakes and seas, restoring other threatened habitats like wildflower meadows and temperate rainforests, etc.

We should also stop mowing grass relentlessly. Insects live there.

    14. trippin-spaced-man on

20 times more likely than what though? What’s the current chance of a 40 degree summer?

    15. vivalaargentina on

Shitty headline blasting relative risk instead of absolute risk.

It doesn’t take away from the fact warming temperatures are an issue we will need to address; however, there is a reason why serious code of conducts frown upon use of relative risk as a communication tool with the general public. It is fear inducing and it preys on poor scientific literacy in the hopes of making a more shocking headline.

Shame of them, as we’ve all seen the damaging consequences of climate fear mongering to progressing the climate agenda and discussion in a constructive way.

    16. Yeah I remember closing our restaurant because it’s was just unsafe for staff. Met by a huge positive wave of support from customers. However it that becomes more frequent I’m not sure people’s patience would last

    17. I’ll never understand why people want to see more of these kinds of temperatures.

Are they cold blooded or something

    18. I bought a free standing AC unit *and* backup AC during COVID.

I’m so, so glad I made that investment. It’s sublime. The entirety of the unbearable summer heat last year totally passed me by. I really recommend them.

I swear that like every Yr the majority of the UK forget we have somewhat consistent hot summers every Yr.

    20. We currently create <1% of the world’s greenhouse gasses.. china 26%… let’s blow billions on cutting back our footprint. Waste of money, time and energy.. unless you’re a politician who can find a way to profit.. country is fucked.

40C here is absolutely disgusting. It’s not nice heat.

When I lived in Australia it’s not exactly unusual to have heat like that but way more tolerable than the same heat here.

    22. TurbulentBullfrog829 on

It’s climbing but it’s still only 4% or once every 25 years. Up from once every 500 years

    23. Emotional_Butterf1y on

Bring it on. Nice to have a nice temperature without jumping on a flight.

    24. H1ghlyVolatile on

Another reason to not have kids. Something else they won’t have to suffer.

    25. Rare_Walk_4845 on

It’s okay it’s part of the British culture to force ourselves to endure intolerable conditions as pat of our „stiff upper lip“ complexes. Grin and bear it boys! Ohh great 40 degree sunshine! Lovely! Just like being back in Spain! Uuuh fire up the barbi!

      Lovely bit of heat!

Meanwhile autumn is just gone, spring is a footnote.

If you vote for a party that denies this kind of thing is an issue then you’re a piece of shit and quite frankly I should be regarded as a terrorist

    27. Inevitable_Bar3555 on

Bro this shit is so bad at 30° I’m melting meanwhile in Romania I was playing football at 35° the humidity is crazy

    28. Acrylic_Starshine on

And people will be loving it until they realize that such hot temps here aren’t normal and not really comfortable doing your day to day job when you are passing out on day 4 of the heatwave.

    29. ColdShadowKaz on

I don’t want to deal with it. I can’t deal with that kind of heat again. I really had a hard time keeping my mother alive though that. I don’t know how I’ll keep myself alive though that.

    30. Pen_dragons_pizza on

The worst thing is that animals in this country also cannot handle it, poor birds dropping dead and other creatures dying from exhaustion or of thirst.

    31. snakeoildriller on

That’ll cut down on all the tourist flights to Spain and Dubai because we can do it here, everybody speaks English and the Spaniards hate us, innit?

    32. EarthConservation on

The UK… a nation claiming that burning wood is net zero.

A nation whose capital city is overloaded with air pollution because of the massive number of flights in and out of their 6… yes 6 major airports.

A nation that seems to really dislike cyclists and PEV riders, massively favoring cars, so much so that London during rush hour is just one big parking lot.

And you know the sad part? The UK is relatively low on the list of nations with highest per capita emitters. They’re not even close to being sustainable, but I guess it could be worse.

Just goes to show how critical it is for everyone around the world, namely in wealthier nations, to drastically cut their energy, meat, and product consumption.

I know… how dare I suggest people lower their quality of life by asking that they buy less shit, drive fewer miles, turn their HVAC down, and fly less. No, none of these request will stop them from living a quality life, but people want more… and More… and MORE!!!

Putting planet over luxury is just never going to happen in our society of leaches.
