I’m sure he had good intentions behind that statement. Just media looking for fuel.
They pay taxes and commit less crimes than Americans. That’s fine with me.
There was no controversy here.. just media trying to create it for clicks. Schwarzenegger makes sense, which is why he has allies across the spectrum. If you can’t agree with „behave like a guest when you’re an immigrant“, I don’t know where that levaes any nation’s immigration policy.
That’s not to say that others aren’t held to standards of following the law, but here he’s talking about immigration in particular. No controversy here. We need immigrants, we want immigrants, and most immigrants are follow the law, except for those who’s first act as an „immigrant“ was to break the law and come here illegally.
That is something we have to deal with, with empathy and with our own nation’s needs in mind — we need farm workers and house builders. We also need engineers, and it’s unfair that Green Card holders are often in 10-15 year-long waits for citizenship, when we simply consider making illegal immigrats regularized. There needs to be a pragmatic and empathetic way to solve this, and there’s a middle ground that we can all agree with.
Behave like a guest. Okay.
Read the room and behave accordingly. Okay.

They should inject themselves with PEDs, audition for roles right off the plane from Austria, and move to Muscle Beach like he did? Or, something else?
I think I understand what he means. It’s like walking into someones house with your shoes on. First ask the custom and if shoes need to be removed then do that. However, if I too have a custom, I can share that with you too.
Behave like a guest is crazy when you became my governor. And I’m not even against that. I’m pro-immigrant all the way. That’s just not very guest like behavior on his end at all. He made himself right at home at the helm of my state. Seems hypocritical.
Behaving like I’m a guest was always the attitude I took before citizenship, which really meant staying the hell out of any discussion involving politics. Any opinions I kept to myself. I was entitled to my opinions but as a guest I was aware some people may be offended, and that’s fair enough as far as I’m concerned.
As a Constitutional Democrat who aggressively opposes not only this Regime, but specifically ICE detentions and deportations without due process, I see no fault in what he’s saying. 🇺🇸

Imagine if your guest decided they should be the one start taking charge of your house and deciding what things you should spend your money on (they convince you to go along with it, but still).

I think you should have respect for everyone and while you may not agree with everything your new country does you did migrate for a reason. But the flip side is Arnold is self made man. Arnold became governor of one of largest economies in America. He became a huge actions star and cultural icon so did he steal jobs of jobs from American actors and American politicians? Its funny how we have exceptions for xenophobia. I find it interesting that some of the most xenophobic people have only been in America for 2 generations at best. Like bro my family had to deal with grandfather clause and poll taxes.
There is no country that allows bad behavior from illegal foreigners. The fact that’s it happens in this country to the point where it’s become standard is unacceptable.

well it should be like that. but we can’t label everyone who is getting out of line as unwelcomed. it’s not rare that social issues play a big role. Process of integration is a tough thing to coordinate well. Many countries are doing the same mistakes and take decades to learn from their systematic failures and another decades to implement better solutions

Mr S is correct. He didn’t say anything that added an extra burden on immigrants. In any country, they should for their own best interests act according to local laws and be polite. Fitting in is how the hosting nation decides to allow the next steps towards granting citizenship.

I’m that super liberal marxist Trump is warning his grandkids about and I…agree with Arnie. That’s how ANYONE should behave wherever they are.
And that’s how most people behave.
That’s nothing very republican to say, not like the headline seems to suggest. Don’t get me wrong, the man lost my adoration when his opinions on the death penalty came out. As an Austrian kid from Graz we all thought he was the bomb. But his views on putting people to death showed me a side of humanity I didn’t appreciate.
But what’s so controversial about wanting people to behave nicely?
That’s what I expect anyone to do, that’s what I do and my family taught me.
And from my experience that’s what most immigrants do. We’ve got loads of Syrians, Afghans, Turks and people from almost every place fleeing poor economies or even wars and I’ve never personally encountered anyone behaving badly. Matter of fact the majority of my experiences are those of immigrants being overly kind and generous.
Sure, I’ve read the stories of immigrants behaving badly and criminal, totally understand how someone with nothing could turn to crime, just saying I haven’t experienced anything negative in my 31 years of life yet.
