They will not cover these issues properly.
I agree, the monstrosity of a bill passed by Mike ‚Jebus‘ Johnson’s congress on a party line vote is financing tyranny. They know what they put in there, they don’t want it covered by the press. So while we are (righteously) outraged over the tax cuts for the rich the MAGA Republican leadership are at least relieved we are not being informed about the rest of the bill.

Thanks TNR. Great to see a small fraction of our political media doing analysis of this bill that will affect all of us for years to come, while most of the corp media just replays footage of the LA protests or invites old generals to bloviate about the dangers of Iran.

I keep on hearing people say things like “the Senate will toss that part,” or “there’s no way that’s going to make it into the final version of the Bill.” Don’t forget, this is a Congress that let a President off the hook for an attempted insurrection which threatened their very lives, and approved the nominations of the most grossly unqualified and destructive cabinet members in our history. Don’t assume anything. Call your Senators…every…single…day.

> My sense is that Democrats are used to their Republican counterparts (and some within their own ranks) pushing for increased “border security” and immigration enforcement funding during budget negotiations and think the public will view it as old hat. This is a sort of learned defeatism, but it also ignores that we are talking about an entirely different scale here. Taking into account previously allocated funding this fiscal year, we’re looking at some $200 billion in spending on immigration enforcement, far above what’s allocated to any other federal law enforcement function and more than has ever been spent on immigration enforcement.

Democrats are also interested in preserving the status quo, or at least inhibiting social reform, concerning the economy.
This displays the priorities of the collective federal government well:
“*The Cato Institute estimates that immigration and border funding would equal about eight times the FBI’s entire budget and 36 times more than tax and financial crimes enforcement*.”
They’re both fighting for control of donor dollars. It’s like the capitalist, ‘race to the bottom,’ but within the government. Another sign of regulatory capture, or whatever the next rung up from that is. Legislative and judicial capture, I guess.

the problem it seems is that the established democrats really dont care. they might use it as talking points, a rallying call, etc, but they wont do what they can to actually stop it. why? because they want to ride this train till election day next year. they want trump and the GOP to do as many harmful things as possible so more people are pissed off and will vote out the GOP. thats their strategy. even if it works though, they arent going to do anything to fix the problems. too many of their own members will still benefit, they got power again, so they dont have anything else to gain immediately. and while if they flip all of congress, they may well try to impeach trump, they know that if they fail, trump will veto anything they try to pass while claiming its their fault.
