his concept is we give him everything and he gives us nothing
our concept is to be polite while backing away and making deals with the EU and other areas that in the past we haven’t made because it was easier to make them with our diplomatic neighbour.

Right now I think any deal with Trump would be a bad deal. He’s just not desperate enough.
We need to focus on literally every other country and our own internal things.
If Trump wants us to build up our military, we can do that too. Because that’s actually good for us. A rare example of something I agree with the US on. Probably why we rocketed to meet 2% of GDP after decades of neglect.

Will the bribe collector in chief accept a Trump Tower Iqaluit and a nice golf course outside Whitehorse courtesy of Canadian taxpayers in exchange for dropping the tariff show? I wish the best of luck to our negotiators

This was a beautiful master class play by Carney..
Took trumps concept , spun it as a commonality, and is salvaging what he can in order to build towards a new economy faster .
No biases let’s put this in perspective to how lucky we got Carney at this time whether he came in as a liberal or not .
Trudeau would of absolutely buried us in a trade war with America by using Canadian pride to sacrifice the Canadian economy to virtue signal his popularity back from the grave..
Poilievre and his lifetime of no achievements but politics would of been dog walked by Trump . There are literally no lifetime politicians that Trump likes .
Pierre would of went right to the table , signed the best deal for corporate America so he could claim his political win while isolating us further from world markets . Short term , we might of done better he would of sold our future away in mid to long term .

The whole exchange is so fucking stupid.
It’s just Trump saying he’s a ‘tariff guy’, complaining that Putin isn’t there because of Obama and Trudeau, while refusing to say Trudeau’s first name and getting his dates wrong. Then eventually Carney just has to politely tell him to shut up and move things along.
There’s no getting rid of tariffs. The amount will fluctuate depending on Trump’s polling and the stock market, but we’re gonna be stuck with them for the foreseeable future

Yes, negotiating with someone that’s smart, and grounded in reality, will have “different concepts” than you do donald.

The US currently doesn’t have the adminstration power to negotiate these agreements. Trump let go tons of these trade lawyers and now has started a world wide trade war. These deals take up to 18 months for a single country. Now he has China, Canada, EU, an island of penguins.
