The house has historical importance as the former residence of the Prime Minister since the 50’s. There are two ideas I have for it.

      1. Renovate the house for the PM to live.
      2. Turn it into a Museum.

Or we could build a new house that meets standards and security for the PM and like other official residence around the world.

Make it the responsibility of the leader of the official opposition.

They will want a home to live in that is…livable. They will also take heat if they allow the PM to live in a rat infested hellhole.

By that same account, make Stornoway the responsibility of the PM

      Problem solved.

I’m pretty sure doing nothing is the worst possible course of action in the minds of Canadians, I don’t know why the politicians struggle so mightily to read the room on this one.

News cycle moves faster than ever, nobody is forcing an election over this right now. Make a move, let the opposition get their shots in, and move on.

Edit: I truly appreciate the politics of this but respectfully I would ask for the prime minister to get the big boy pants on, look the NDP dead in the eye, and dare them to go to an election right now over this. Now is the time. Push through whatever (I’m totally agnostic at this point as I’m completely pinned down by the embarrassment of this whole ordeal), and move on.

We’re gonna be talking about this for another 20 years. Just turn it into a museum and build a new PM home. Throw $50m at this and call it a day. Next

This is so silly. Just make a decision. Either spend the money to fix it, or not. The lingering debate and inaction is beyond stupid at this point.

    6. Either spend the money to fix it up and make it habitable, or spend the money to demolish it and build something new.

It’s absurd that we don’t have a functional and secure official residence for our head of government.

I think the house will need to be a teardown by the end of a full Carney mandate so it’s just an admission that it will become rubble soon enough.
