It seems the CPC hasn’t learned anything from the election, since they seem convinced that Doug Ford was the biggest challenge they faced during the election. This group is pretty clearly backed by Poilievre loyalists and will handily be laughed off by the big blue machine, but the fact that the Poilievre camp seems so eager to go to war with Ford should raise eyebrows.
There’s a lot of stuff which the Poilievre camp did to attack Ford during 2024 which didn’t make the news. Everything is a war to them.

The modern Canadian Conservative movement is so allergic to conversations about electability that their reaction to criticism from the most powerful and electorally successful conservative official in the country is to launch attacks against him, rather then trying to court him or learn from him.
That is probably because they *really* don’t like what they know he’ll tell them (move closer to the center, tone down the populism).

This is pretty clearly an attempt to oust Ford or to force him to move to the right. Probably done by the CPC or Blue Tories within the OPCs.
Frankly as a moderate PC I think this may lead to some serious infighting or a splitting of the party as we’ve seen with the conservative movement in Alberta or at the federal level.
I’m no Doug Ford fan but we could have many worse people at the helm of the OPC. Ford is a corrupt, populist but he’s not a fanatical fiscal conservative like Harris was or a diehard social conservative. The last thing Ontario needs is another conservative party succumbing to the angry populist reform ideology that’s popular with the federal CPC.
They’re angry with Ford and we’re going to see a war in the conservative movement.
