I mean, true.
But at the same time we have to have avenues to de-escalate and ameliorate relations with countries that we have problems with.
I hope there are backroom negotiations making sure steps are being taken to address this and other issues.
A huge problem with current politics is that everything is dragged in front of the public eye and 24 hour news cycle leading to a situation that neither party can back down from.
In the case of India, it was 100% their fault, so I’m of mixed mind about it.
I think this really shows the difference between the Carney Liberals and the Trudeau Liberals, for better or for worse depending on how you view it.
Carney very clearly prioritizes the economy while Trudeau likely just wouldn’t have invited Modi. I think it does make sense to invite India from Carney’s POV, but they still need to do something here to acknowledge what Modi’s government did
No. It’s not a State visit or even a thawing of relations. It’s a pragmatic reality that the G7 need India onside or at least keeping their aspirations aligned.
The NDP should be no where near power with this level of understanding of diplomacy. Canada can evolve the relationship with India and its „intelligence adventures“ through diplomatic channels with creating an insulting diplomatic incident.

We are not a democracy if the Prime Minister of Canada invites foreign leaders who target his political rivals. Carney clearly doesn’t care that Modi’s agent made a „credible threat“ to Singh’s life, as the RCMP claimed.
