Between this and the return of Zia Yusuf, I have a feeling that Farage seems to be trying to ‚mainstream‘ Reform to be more like Tories, and this includes accepting the unofficial national political consensus on the need to controlled immigration and accepting immigrants as a part of British society.
So… Is reform gonna go against the one major thing most of it’s supporters support it for? That’s certainly a bold move.
Why is it always „immigration built this country“ or „immigration is the lifeblood of Britain“ but never „Native Britons built this country“ or „Native Britons are the lifeblood of Britain“. Britain was built by the native population, not immigrants.
It’s also such an Americanism. This notion of a „nation of immigrants“ is an American import has virtually no bearing on the UK. The UK was overwhelmingly homogeneous throughout history. It’s within most peoples lifetimes that we became diverse. Even if you’re 30 in this country you should be able to recall a time when the UK was substantially less diverse than it is now.
this is so hilarious. obviously everyone in politics understands that the uk needs immigrants in order for the economy to function. if we adopt a socialist economy that might change but that’s probably off the table for reform voters? they end in up a position where they really want to end immigration, which makes them anti neoliberalism, but they aren’t socialists either, so they don’t have any ideas of what should actually be done, they just want to immigration to Stop Now. and obviously reform politicians are all Thatcherite neoliberals, they know they can’t just end immigration nor do they want to

All these people who vote for neoliberal politicians election after election, are going to be so angry when these Reform neoliberals also enact a neoliberal approach towards immigration. They will never learn.
Farage has said numerous times that he wants controlled points based migration. No I don’t know if it’s a current policy.
Maybe people could scrutinise whether importing a load of builders will lead to there being permission to build houses we need, in a joined up policy that succeeds without the British system of blocking applying – no I don’t know how to do that.
Reform won’t change immigration. They are using it as a wedge issue to get in and de-regulate and asset strip the state.

This is a good thing IMO. Reform’s major problem for me is it’s extremist stance on immigration, they need to tone down the rhetoric and be more realistic with the numbers. Legal immigration is important to this country. Let them deal with the illegals.
Many of their other promises are interesting but they tend laser focus on this one issue and lose the plot over it. Showing that they can be more moderate and sensible if need be is of benefit to them.
If Reform get anywhere close to power they’ll rugpull their anti-immigration rhetoric in a goddamn second.

Without immigration, there won’t be a large enough workforce in this country to support the infrastructure of this country in 20 years time – or to pay the pensions of those who manage to qualify.
Beyond anything else this is just a factually untrue statement. Up until even as late as the 1990s the foreign born or foreign descended population of Britain was seriously limited. This rhetoric is a deliberate attempt to misrepresent and obscure history.

I’ve realised, as a centre lefty, that a significant number of Reform fans are going to be entirely disappointed with their action or lack of on migration, if they ever won power.
NetZero migration, at current levels, still means 400,000 people per year. I’m wondering how many Reform voters actually understand that?
Yesterday, on Question Time, Zia Yusuf, called many people ‚alien cultures‘. I do wonder if he calls his parents that? Or is it only when it suits him for votes does he use such language? I’d say British culture is alien to Australia, but hey ho.
He also demands we send the boats back to France. Asked what if France says ’non‘, he couldn’t answer. Just simplistic rubbish from them, that cannot stand up to any critique.
As with Brexit, which was supposed to be magic pill, they’re overplaying the so called benefits of their demands. Some still can’t see that, yet as a remainer of Windrush heritage, my family have seen this all before. Many of their ex-NF, BNP, UKIP, BP, etc, voters will never be happy until there’s zero migration and ‚remigration‘. That simply isn’t going to happen. Businesses won’t let it happen; it’d tank the economy, but their supporters will deny that and if it did, they’ll do like they did with Brexit and say ‚it was worth it for sovereignty‘.
Farage made it clear, post-Brexit migration was to end FoM, but ‚make it fairer‘ for non-Europeans (remember ‚Indian cooks‘?), with ‚an Australian style system‘, while also standing in-front of ‚flooding in‘ posters. Many clearly made the mistake of thinking Australia still had some form of White-Australia policy, because now they complain of ‚alien, incompatible cultures‘ and ironically prefer the very Europeans they voted against.
Farage, Bull as with many of their party-mates don’t believe a word they’re saying. I am wondering if Reform voters will ever wise up to it.

I know Farage is entirely a politican that says one thing and does another. The tories copied the stance entirely as the anti-immigration party that saw the largest swings in increasing that number.
This is why the main parties following them is so bad. Farage has one trick. Bad immigrants they stole all your money. But it’s him and his buddies actually doing the robbing. But they can’t tell the people that and they can’t let it get too out of control that busienss gets uppity.
Labour following this approach is useless because the people that will vote for them if they follow it, won’t if they don’t follow through with it, and we all know they can’t or the country will fall apart.
