As a Canadian Jew its disgusting how much antisemitism has skyrocketed in Canada. This country is quickly becoming everything i swore to fight against when I joined the CAF
Canada is a $2.1 trillion dollar economy, over 40 million people, second largest country by area on Planet Earth. We are a fast growing and increasingly influential middle power. It’s about time we stand up for what is right and return to our roots as peacemakers and peacekeepers. Calling out genocide is part of that.
To the people saying this is Canada siding with Hamas, read the article. Per our UN Ambassador, we wanted an amendment that would highlight the responsibility of Hamas in this conflict, condemn Hamas for the 1,200 people killed on 7 October 2024, call for a disarmament of Hamas and that Hamas must step down from the governance of Gaza. We couldn’t get it. From our Ambassador language, we can assume that it was either you vote with what’s on the floor or not.
We cannot use Hamas as an argument to excuse a genocide. I fully agree with the decision we made, and I am glad to see we no longer vote the way the US wants us to vote.
On a further point from the article, I’d call the CIJA an Israeli organisation, not a Jewish organisation. This whole thing has nothing to do with the Jews and playing Israel’s game by involving the Jewish population will only result in an increase of antisemitism (which we unfortunately already see)

It has taken way too long for Canada to vote on the right side of this issue. But Bob Rae still has to complain about how October 7th wasn’t mentioned, when we are so far removed from that date. Like, imagine the UN having to write about the horrors of 9/11, in 2025, everytime a resolution condemning U.S. intervention in the Middle East comes up.
We voted the same way in the assembly on what was essentially the same resolution proposal in 2023. I’m not sure what the globe feels the departure is.
