It’s pretty isolated and expected , we always blow past the mark and this sector was over targeted.
This is why it’s refreshing to hear Carney talk about the layers of housing affordability problems that we have .
Our resources should be spread equally so that we are not constantly creating boom and bust environments in different areas of housing.
We need cooperation and coordination between the federal, provincial, and municipal governments or we will just keep hitting walls like this.
Really underlines the need for a public homebuilder if private developers will pull out all future supply because they can’t make *as much* profit.
This is exactly why we need the feds to get back into home building like it was post-war until the 90s. We can’t rely boom and bust cycles to house our population while only building new housing when speculators think they can siphon off the maximum profit from it
„High housing prices means contractors aren’t making affordable housing“… then „Falling housing prices mean housing starts will go down“
It’s almost as if the cost of housing isn’t the reason that affordable housing isn’t being built..
WE DON’T WANT YOUR TINY APARTMENTS DEVOID OF STANDARD AMENITIES!
People aren’t buying because much of what has been built recently was done under the belief that people wanted to own so badly that they didn’t care how unlivable it might be, and now the chickens have come home.
These developers should be made to renovate their brand new developments to a place where they’re actually functional.
