Unfortunately, the Western world has been indoctrinated by thinking that „Islam“ is automatically bad. Most of us don’t even know that Iran was more liberal in the past than it is now…until the US mingled into its politics because they were trying to nationalise the oil industry.
Turkey is a Muslim country and yet, its biggest city (Istanbul, 15 million people) is more liberal and accepting of differences than many big cities in the United States.
In Canada, many Canadians have also been indoctrinated into thinking that „Islam“ is synonymous with Sharia and radicalism. It’s like considering that „Christianism“ is automatically synonymous with radical Evangelicalism.
Uhhhh… I don’t really think there is stigmatization against muslims, especially here in Canada. We’re a pretty big melting pot of cultures and there’ll always be ignorant people, but it’s kinda crazy to say that it’s widespread.

Wow, it’s almost as if there are certain people who attribute the actions of some to the entirety of a people based solely on their religious beliefs… I wonder where I’ve heard that before.
Shitty people say and do shitty things… Unfortunately, most of those shitty people are religious and do and say those shitty things to other religious people.
The fucking weird part is that the three main culprits ALL BELIEVE IN THE SAME GOD!!!
I gotta say it’s pretty terrible that instead of the discussion in this thread being about how to tackle Islamophobia in Canada, users are trying to prove “Islam bad” as if trying to justify that Muslim Canadians don’t deserve the same level of protection of their charter rights. I would not, for example, expect this kind of discussion if a church or synagogue suffered a hate-crime. I guess it all just goes to prove that Islamophobia is alive and thriving in Canada.

As long as there are people in Canada there will be some bigots. I don’t know why we only talk about one group when Jews, Indigenous and east Asians have faced the same issues. Most people are fine and live and let live but there are idiots in every society. Let’s be honest though. The issues we have in Canada pale in comparison to most countries. We are an ethnically diverse society so from time to time we will have incidents. We have laws and it is just a matter of punishing those responsible to deter others.
They want to end the stigmatization of islam but everytime you give a comment about it here you get a 3 day ban. We have the right to say that we wanna to live in a secular country. Those culture dont mix well with the others france, germany, sweden, uk, belgium, how much more do you need?
