**The French presidency says it has secured several ‚concrete‘ and ‚unprecedented‘ commitments from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas toward a two-state solution.**
A letter was delivered on Monday, June 9, to the French president’s desk. At the same time, a copy was sent to Mohammed bin Salman („MBS“), the crown prince of Saudi Arabia. Signed by Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority (PA), the missive came as a boost for the Elysée, just days before the International Conference on the Peaceful Resolution of the Question of Palestine, organized by Paris and Riyadh at the United Nations headquarters in New York from June 17 to 21.
The 89-year-old leader listed the gestures hoped for by the French president, delivering a forceful appeal to Hamas to immediately release all hostages, and pledging support for a demilitarized Hamas that would play no further role in the governance of a Palestinian state. „The Palestinian State should be the sole provider of security on its territory, but has no intention to be a militarized State,“ wrote the head of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
Abbas also promised a thorough reform of the PA, including holding presidential and legislative elections within one year. „We are ready to fully fulfill our part in establishing a credible path to end the occupation and advance toward achieving an independent and sovereign Palestinian state and implementing the two-state solution, within a clear timetable and with strong international guarantees,“ he wrote, saying he was „ready to invite Arab and international forces to be deployed as part of a stabilization/protection mission with a [UN] Security Council mandate.“
The Elysée saw in these words a „real willingness to move toward the implementation of the two-state solution,“ highlighting „concrete“ and „unprecedented“ commitments from the PA president. „This is the first time [Abbas] has condemned Hamas so strongly,“ said a French diplomat, describing the letter as „an important milestone on the road to New York.“

It’s always strange when countries support a two-state solution but only recognises one state. It kind of makes more sense to just recognise Israel’s sovereignty over West Bank and Gaza.
Abas vas absolutly no power on the west Banks How this momentum would change anything ?
I think that it’s now too late for the 2SS to be any realistic, no Israeli government will dismantle and expell 700,000 settlers and knowing that Israel carefully distributed the settlements to cut through Palestinian population clusters making them like a Swiss cheese map making any future negotiations for continuously Palestinian state impossible also Israel with encouraging of the US made every possible move to make East Jerusalem impossible to negotiate about. So what I see is that the two states solution could function as a kool-aid drink for the Palestinians
It’s time to realize reality on the ground and if I was a Palestinian I would ask the Palestinian Authority to be dismantled and the PLO taking it place as a movement to represent the Palestinian aspiration for self determination and this time demanding equal rights… You want this sweet biblical hills? You’re gonna have to take the people living there as a bonus package… Withdrawing the case for a statehood that we know it will never be achieved is not the end game, it should be a move which would make it a lot harder for Israel to contain million of occupied stateless Palestinians using the occupation method, Israel would have zero justifications to resist giving the Palestinian population equal rights
