My buddy’s grandfather was a general in Burma during WWII, later becoming a UN peace keeper. He was jailed as a political prisoner for some time in the 70s-80s, which is why my buddy’s dad moved to the US in the 80s. My buddy’s father still owns land in Burma which is now being used as a staging area for the resistance. He is a university professor and went back and helped the country build up their university system when Aung San Suu Kyi was in power. That work has been on hold since Covid and then the coup.
