In a change of tone to the past few weeks, President Trump has said that he does not care whether or not Chinese students study at Harvard and other elite US universities. He does care, however, about making a trade deal with China, and knew it was an important card he could play in striking an agreement with America’s biggest global rival.

The details of what has been worked out in London are yet to be fully disclosed and will require a rubber-stamping by Trump and President Xi, but the announcement that a framework has been agreed perhaps ends one of the most contentious periods in diplomatic relations between the two superpowers in recent years.

    2. There is no win here. Trump broke existing agreements and nearly sent the economy in to a tailspin for no practical reason.

Breaking everything and returning to something that is demonstrably worse than where we began is a failure and it should be referred to as such.

It is a win for Trump. He will now be able to tell Americans how he has „Increase chocolate ration to 20 grams“ and they will all cheer the benevolence of their great leader.
