My mom went to church on sundays and believed but was a great person and didn’t let this kind of overzealousness take hold. We watched scary movies, celebrated Halloween, associated with people that didn’t believe (and didn’t try to convert them) and I am happy to have had her as a mom.

I knew people like this in my Christian homeschool circles in the 90s. Couldn’t read Harry Potter, couldn’t watch Pokémon because of evolution lol. My mom was conservative but she let us enjoy those things. We were told that we couldn’t talk about them with certain friends who weren’t allowed.
