Oof, Charlie’s not wrong about the broad picture and maybe it’s just Postmedia focusing on the dumbest point but this is nonsense:

The party was not over focused on TikTok, which might as well be code for focusing on young people. Jagmeet deleted his very successful TikTok account for a year because he was trying to impress Postmedia columnists and that break was a huge own goal.
Ultimately, this is a result that the party asked for when the party gave Singh 80% in his last leadership review, despite there being very concerning trends. Throughout the last parliament we saw the Liberals completely crash in support, and the NDP gained absolutely no momentum from that, which should have raised alarm bells. People simply did not like Singh, and the election results showcased that. Burnaby Central had the greatest drop in NDP support of any riding in the country, despite the party sinking the most resources into that seat(foolishly).
While it might suck for the NDP that they lost party status, it could be a blessing in disguise. The lack of funds could force the party to fire most of the people involved in the last campaign, which can only be good news for them.
It’s going to take years to rebuild the party. They should be putting in someone bold and new. Jag will be an interesting figure in retrospect given the choices he was faced with but he should have stepped down awhile ago when the winds started to turn.
The NDP fully supported JT’s devastating working-class policies of uncontrolled mass low-wage immigration, and even in the aftermath (when this wreckage became painfully clear to most), the NDP continue to not acknowledge their role in it or even forcefully distance themselves from it.
Until they do so, they deserve every bit of annihilation they brought on themselves!
I think all of the parties should take note of what just happened.
The electorate was waiting and ready to pounce on a centrist candidate. The stampede toward the ideological centre was the country abandoning boutique politics and grasping the stakes facing the country and the world.
All of the parties platforms were unappealing to the voters. They were not aligned with the desires of the country until an adult entered the room.
Perhaps the lesson to be learned is that the federal parties should ask the electorate what they want instead of serving them ideological leftovers. Stop treating the electorate like children. And start behaving like adults.
We lost touch because we allowed failures of apparatchiks like Lucy Watson, Jennifer Howard, or Anne McGrath, who don’t take this party seriously to ruin it. These people are a revolving door of „consultants“ who do jack shit but fuck up this party more and more. They yesman each other in their echochamber and do jack shit to improve this party because if we wanted to improve it, it’d mean them losing their jobs.
I have a lot of horror stories about Lucy Watson’s dictatorial, harrassment-ladden record within our party, which should have normally ensured that she never should have held her current job right now, but she’s failed upwards constantly. For legal reasons however, I am alleging these, but regardless, her and her cronies are parasitical to our party.
I have to agree with Charlie. The federal NDP need to do more to actually connect with and engage with average Canadians, particularly working class Canadians. It’s past time for a reformation in the party to engage with people and start foregrounding the traditional working-class base. More than anything though, it’s up to the Provincial NDP leaders to actually start advancing the interests of unions, and scoring wins for Canadians on the ground, because our biggest issues right now, are all in the provincial jurrisdiction. Wab Kinew has done more to help advance the NDP cause than any federal MP in the country. The best leader right now is one that can help coordinate efforts between provincial parties.
Jagmeet issue is he sold himself as „i am Trudeau but actually left“
If people like Trudeau they would go for Trudeau.
Jagmeet also came across as a joke outside the ndp base to the wider electoral with his ameatur level messaging and being all over the place.
Also he didnt really campaign much vs pp or Trudeau or ev3n carney. Doing 1 event a day. His social media was mostly doing cringe low level videos vs sleek cool videos.
