Older hardware tends to be harder to (re)program. I know I certainly reject the idea – but in the end what I think changes *nothing.*
The first treaty signed in what is now Canada between then Colonial powers and a First Nations group, was in 1701. I wager most Canadians need to brush up on Canadian history. There is a long, very long history.
Stolen is just kind of a weird term to use, if someone from England or France or Germany said their land was being stolen by Indians/Pakistanis/Africans, etc they would be labeled as racists and bigots.
I think you can know Canada’s history while also rejecting that you live on a stolen land. It’s a bit like squaring the circle, but I don’t think it’s intentionally so. I think a lot of people are rejecting the generational guilt aspect of the question; human history is one of conquest and sometimes it matters and sometimes it doesn’t. Additionally, Canada isn’t giving it back, so there’s this awkward position people take where they acknowledge an historical wrong but they don’t actually want to right it.
All that to say, I don’t think this poll truly captures historical knowledge; it’s a loaded question.
