Well, yeah? If you let people offer more, the price will follow. The issue is the demand/ supply. Throwing more money to buy houses will not fix it

    2. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought the point was only to offer the GST cut for purchasing new homes. Therefore, incentivizing people to specifically buy new homes, which incentivizes the construction of more new homes. This would decrease the demand for existing housing, pushing prices down.

    3. This is why the Conservative plan was a poor one: if all buyers get a rebate, then sellers increase price. The Liberals are hoping that if only some buyers get the rebate, sellers can’t increase prices lest they lose out buyers/bidders. Hope it works.

You mean….. increasing demand without increasing the supply will result in higher prices?

Fuck me sideways…. is that how basic economics works?

Can anyone really control the housing market? Only building an insane amount of supply, removing a large chunk of the population, or severely reducing the cost of building will cause deflation. Until then home prices won’t change much.
