It astounds me that these people can’t connect the dots sometimes. If they have to operate under tight/vulnerable budgets with a lot of oversight, with paper trails for about everything they do… Why wouldn’t it be efficient and above board???

What I would gather is most Inefficiency in government is due to lack of funding for that particular department.
So yea, underfunded programs are going to be less efficient because they have less resources.
No shit. But now all of that goes out the window because Republicans have absolutely demolished decades of institutional knowledge and experience (obviously purposefully).
It’s not efficiency DOGE is after, it’s regulations that affect billionaires negatively.

It was so clear from the start that these clowns had zero clue. They know so little about how things actually work yet they confidently think they can do better. Maybe a bunch of college-age broccoli bros don’t actually know as much as seasoned professionals and things exist the way they do for reasons beyond your minimal understanding.
I’ve worked with so many of these types of Dunning-Kruger losers in my career. „Just do it this way bro, trust me bro“ when you have no understanding of the subtleties of the situation or the business drivers that dictate why things are how they are. Stay in your lane.
It’s baffling to me how successful Trump and Musk have been in terms of hoodwinking voters. Their own cults would never abandon them even if the two of them shot cultists’ relatives in plain sight, but centrists, swing voters, infrequent voters, whatever, I just don’t understand. They’ve been so embarrassingly pranked when it comes to DOGE and government waste and they still don’t seem like they’re waking up.
It’s a reverse Truman Committee. The Truman Committee found that contractors for military housing were corrupt and they saved money by having the Army Corps of Engineers build housing. Now we will have the funding redirected to corrupt and wasteful contractors.
Yeah, that’s BS — Nobody’s floored by the efficiency of government. What they don’t get is that Government isn’t the pinnacle of efficiency sometimes for good reason. You can have a GW Bush, Obama or Trump-1 as president — the machinery keeps working. Bureaucracy is critical to government, as government can’t change fundamenal rules every 5 days. You need career people who don’t owe loyalty to a person or party for their jobs, and can afford to do their jobs for the benefit of citizens.
Our department literally runs on minimal staff. Every new administration comes in and tries to hit us with cuts and new software and methods. We’re so much quicker than our contractors that it’s a little absurd. They literally complained we had too many electric vehicle charging stations. I’m pretty sure we had none.
Waste, excessive redundancy, glacial pace? Probably could find a decent amount of that. Abuse? Only by individuals and corporations abusing grants, loan forgiveness, and tax law.
Yep. The fact is what „abuse“ there is literally amounts to fraction of a fraction of the overall national debt or even overall budget.

Next they’ll be amazed at how they couldn’t find any cat boxes or surgical theaters in public schools.
Having read his interview and his blog, it’s so frustrating to me we have these very smart guys who are so arrogant that they think they can come into these huge, complex, old organizations and „fix“ them essentially overnight.
Oh, this guy doesn’t come across as an arrogant narcissist or anything, but the idea that you just come in and don’t bother getting the lay of the land, learn what tools are or are not available, what the laws and regulatory requirements are, what the processes are and **why** they are the way they are – it just screams a lack of humility. I wouldn’t go into a tech company and start demanding they use the tools and processes I used in my previous, *completely unrelated* career field.

2) Once you reach billionaire status, what you are after that point is power not money.

The government is extremely efficient where it needs or wants to be and it is inefficient where it needs to or wants to be.
If you look at anything you would call inefficient in the government, there is a chain of decisions, often leading back to an legislator or party or corporate interest that wants it to be that way.
Isn’t that just wonderful. Better let the never fit here? Musk was doing what he was told/hired to do by, the ruiner of harmony. We are about to feel the need for calm reality.
The biggest inefficiencies are things conservatives force the government to do, like mandating that the government contract out every other random function so small businesses don’t have their little feelings hurt.
No shit. A lot of governments do have waste but many departments are lean as they come, hiring contractors and part timers — at hours short of full time to legally save money on benefits
